Tanlines at Fortune Sound Club

Comments

We’re guessing the name is intended to be ironic. Let’s face it, when you imagine what a band called Tanlines might be like, you probably smell coconuts, hear steel drums and high-life guitars, and picture grass-skirted dancers making a conga line for the nearest swim-up bar serving mai tais and mojitos. Or something to that effect. What you don’t think of is a pair of pasty Brooklynites who look like the only tans they’re in danger of getting are from the light of their computer screens. Admittedly, Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm do infuse a little tropical flavour into their productions, which straddle the line between electronic dance music and indie rock. Well, “tropical” in the same way Vampire Weekend is “African”, at any rate. Still, there’s little doubt that the duo’s inventive and eminently booty-shakable songs will make Fortune Sound Club one hell of a hot place to be on Monday (April 23).
