Vancouver punk bands memorialized in Touch & Go

Meatmen fans excited about the band’s Vancouver debut will want to get their hands on the illustrated compilation of the seminal fanzine Tesco Vee co-edited. It’s titled Touch & Go: The Complete Hardcore Punk Zine ’79-83. Vancouverites will be happy to note that early recordings by D.O.A., the Subhumans, the Pointed Sticks and other local bands from the first wave of punk get reviewed. “I went to a Subhumans and X show at a frat bar in East Lansing, and D.O.A. played at Club Doobie,” Vee told the Straight. That helped make the Meatmen singer a lifelong fan of D.O.A. frontman Joey Keithley. “I really respect Joe, and the fact that he’s still as passionate about it as he was 30 years ago, I admire that greatly.” The comp features the work of a Vancouver correspondent, Margrette A., whose 1981 scene report takes in Illegal Youth, Rabid, Art Bergmann, Los Radicos Popularos, and former Black Flag vocalist and current Piggy guitarist Ron Reyes.
