Voice of the Cellar competition climaxes
After six weeks and 18 bands, the Voice of the Cellar competition ends on Friday (August 17) with performances by finalists Jordan Klassen, Cobra Ramone, and Steph Macpherson. The winner will make off with an impressive prize package worth almost $12,000 in cash, gear, studio time, and more. And if the Peak Performance Project is anything to go by, there should be a hefty crowd for this climactic battle—which happens to be free if you show up before 9 p.m.
“We wanted to do something that gave back to the local music community,” Cellar Nightclub manager Christian Aldred told the Straight. “And we wanted to keep building on the same basic idea as the Peak, where we promote education and talent, and give away some money, and give artists an opportunity to showcase their music.”
Equally, Aldred added, the Voice of the Cellar helps position the room as a strong live venue. “It’s a really cool little spot,” he said, “and we want it to be known as somewhere that has a bit of soul and character and actually has the live-music feel that Toronto and Montreal are known for.”
