The Weeknd at the Commodore Ballroom

For whatever reason, some dudes never get the attention that they deserve. Take, for example, Abel Tesfaye, better known to those from the Centre of the Universe as the Weeknd, who plays the Commodore this Saturday (May 12). Over the course of his brief career, the rapper-producer has somehow managed to slip completely under the radar. Hell, until a couple of months back, few people had any idea what he even looked like, evidently because no one could be bothered to interview him. Seriously: Google “the Weeknd + interviews”, and see what comes up. A whole lot of nothing, that’s what. Our boy is so criminally overlooked, he has to suffer such indignities as MTV bigwigs describing him as the “best musical talent since Michael Jackson”. Seriously? The best they could do was Wacko Jacko? Not Elvis, the Beatles, or Guns N’ Roses back in the “Sweet Child o’ Mine” days? Dude is totally getting the short end of the stick.
