Whoa! She's a Babe has its charms

      Whoa! She’s a Babe (Independent)

As you might have guessed from the sensitive-male band name, Whoa! She’s a Babe flies the bonehead flag with pride. Billed as a “party rock” outfit, the local four-piece isn’t exactly forward-looking, either musically or socially, unless QOTSA fronted by Billy Squier wearing a No Fat Chicks shirt is your idea of progress.

And still, this debut EP has its charms, especially the third track, “Half Moon Bay”, which might have you thinking of the Desert Sessions version of “Monster in the Parasol”. In general, you could stick Whoa! She’s a Babe somewhere near the end of a line that starts in the sun-baked flats of Kyuss and Fu Manchu and ends—weirdly enough—at the Roxy, via Buckcherry.

Be that as it may, there are plenty of damaged boys and girls out there who can puke a Jägerbomb-infused rainbow of hate at the very idea of a chirpy white guy holding a guitar over his tits and singing about some magician called Camilo—which happens to be the prevailing model round these parts at the moment. These folks need their music too, and this is the kind of chunky, catchy, very well-executed, balls-heavy nonsense that’ll do the trick. So, then, one-and-a-half resin-stained thumbs up. It’d be two, but we lost half of one thumb in a fan-belt mishap.
