The Mountain Village Garden Apartments are on a 4.5-hectare site not far from the Lynn Valley Centre mall.

      Update:

The victims have been identified as a mother, Narges Casnajad, and her eight-year-old son Sepehr. The husband and an older son were able to escape the blaze.

The RCMP has said that 12 injured people were taken to hospitals around the Lower Mainland.

      Update:

A GoFundMe page has been created for the surviving husband and son who lost two family members. Narges Casnajad worked at a dollar store in North Vancouver.

"They were a hardworking family that journeyed across oceans for a better life; unfortunately, however, they were struck by an unforeseen, unfair, and totally unnecessary act of nature," wrote a friend in an email to the Straight.

Narges Casnajad and her son Sepehr Koshkoye Delshad lost their lives in the fire.
