Anaheim Ducks blow out Canucks 7-3 in season opener

So who will be between the pipes tomorrow night for the Vancouver Canucks?

Presumably, coach Alain Vigneault will start Cory Schneider against the Edmonton Oilers despite a dismal performance tonight against the Anaheim Ducks.

The new Canucks' Number 1 netminder allowed five goals on 14 shots before he was replaced by Roberto Luongo.

The final score was a 7-3 blowout with 42-year-old veteran Teemu Selanne leading the Ducks with two goals and two assists.

The Canucks outshot their opponents 29-26, but looked very ragged in their own end. Defender Dan Hamhuis was on the ice for five Anaheim goals.

Perhaps the most talented Vancouverite on this night was Sarah McLachlan, who sang the U.S. and Canadian national anthems with students from her music school.

McLachlan watched the game with former Canucks sniper Geoff Courtnall.

Canucks president and general manager Mike Gillis and captain Henrik Sedin offered a pregame "thank you" to the fans, who were enthusiastic through the first period.

The Canucks were tied 2-2 after the first frame, but four unanswered Ducks' goals in the second period put the game away.

The Canucks organization gave away plenty of free beer and soft drinks and sold $1 hot dogs to cushion the pain of the hockey lockout.

There was also a free Canucks scarf on every seat in Rogers Arena.

But it wasn't enough to mollify bitter fans, who were complaining about the team's performance on the postgame radio talk shows.

Everyone received a scarf, but the fans wanted a win.

I just love to see those arrogant jerks loose. Keep it up you grossly overpaid low grade morons, and you'll be playing golf again soon.

That one dollar hot dog may be a 900% price reduction but they still won't lose money on it, sucker fans.

The Canucks are a disfunctional team with an incompetent g.m. and an easy going coach. The Sedins are under-achievers and the goalie situation is a disaster. They need a total housecleaning.
