Premier Christy Clark has offered the B.C. government's help in the wake of explosions at the Boston Marathon.

"Our immediate thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those killed and injured by today's terrible explosion near the finish line of the Boston Marathon," Clark said today (April 15).

"While we don't have full details, it's clear that first responders are to be commended for their quick and professional actions.

"Regardless of the cause, it's a dreadful thing to happen - particularly near the very spot where runners and spectators from around the globe have been celebrating athletic achievement for the past 117 years.

"Our government stands ready to offer whatever assistance may be needed in light of this tragedy."

Dozens of people from Vancouver were running in the storied race.

Boston police have confirmed two large explosions occurred along the marathon route. The department said there have been two deaths and over 20 injuries.

"At present, a multi-agency response including state and federal law enforcement agencies has been activated and is investigating the cause of the explosions," police said in a statement.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a statement on the day's events as well.

“I was shocked to learn of the explosions that occurred today during the running of the Boston Marathon. It is truly a sad day when an event as inspiring as the Boston Marathon is clouded by such senseless violence," Harper said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured or affected by this horrible incident. We stand with our American neighbours in this difficult time.”

Friends and relatives who are looking for information on Canadians believed to be in the area of the explosions are being told to contact 1-800-387-3124 or sos@international.gc.ca.

Hey Earl lighten up, this was a terrible terrorist attack, & politicians of all stripes have commented on this attack even Harper, Trudeau, Mulclair & some premiers & mayors...... are they opportunist too or are they as sickened as all of us to see this horrible attack happen to innocent people, 3 dead & over 140 injured with some people loosing limbs.......You may not agree with Christy's politics & her party ( few here do) but cut her some slack on this one as she is still human & this was a heinous act..

@ "The Facts" -- Other than Clark, which political leader in Canada offered "assistance" to authorities in the U.S.?

What kind of "assistance" did Clark imagine that B.C. could offer to the FBI, ATF, Homeland Security, Boston police and the state of Mass.?

      Please enlighten me/us.
