Parts of the Metrotown shopping centre in Burnaby were evacuated today.

Police arrived on the scene around noon and cleared people from the food court.

According to CKNW, police responded to a report of a suspicious package. The object was subsequently determined to not be a threat.

A message posted to the Metropolis Twitter account read: "An incident is currently under investigation by the authorities who will provide more details when info is available."

Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt.-Major John Buis is quoted by the Burnaby News Leader stating that officers were on the scene and waiting for a specialized team to arrive and begin an investigation.

Accounts on Twitter indicated that areas of the mall away from the food court remained open for business.

It seems the terrorists have succeeded in making everyone paranoid.
