Will the oil companies offset climate change?

If we must—and “must” is only so if we choose it to be so—transport explosive bitumen throughout Canada by pipelines and trains, then the government must provide sufficient regulatory funds and resources to ensure that the industry does it as safely as possible [“David Suzuki: Effects of fossil fuel addiction”, web-only]. Direct taxation should ensure that the oil industry pays for the construction of dikes, which will be necessary for the protection of our cities and coastline from the rising ocean levels that fossil-fuel usage will bring.
