The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has updated a March 10 food-recall warning with some additional information.

The Elite Salads brand of schmaltz herring products has been recalled by manufacturers Elite Salads International because they may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which can produce a potentially fatal toxin.

Six different Elite Salads schmaltz herring products are affected by the recall, with the products having been distributed in Alberta, Ontario, and possibly nationwide.

No illnesses have been reported as a result of these products having been consumed. The recall is a result of CFIA inspections.

For codes and best-before dates linked to the six recalled products, go here. The CFIA recommends that if you find any of the recalled products in your home you throw them out or return them to the retailer where they were purchased.
