In the wake of the suspicious deaths of New Westminster escorts Jill Lyons and Karen Nabors, the Triple-X Workers' Solidarity Association of B.C. is providing advice to others in this line of work.

The two women died earlier this month at different times in the Elmwood Apartments in the 200 block of 11th Street.

Here are some safety tips issued today by the association:

      Emergency

Don't hesitate to call 911 if you fear for your safety. Keep your cellphone close by.

      Work together

If working alone, call a partner in front of the client. Tell them you are starting a session and what time you'll call back. Even repeat customers.

      Keep a log

Log all client inquiries with phone numbers, names, email addresses, et cetera. Don't see clients you have no information about.

      Share information

Report all bad dates, including suspicious clients.

      Be careful

Do not ingest any substance a client could have tampered with, including condoms and lube. Never work while impaired.

I am so sorry for the loss of these two women's lives. This is why we mourn and we continue to organize until our work is safe! The safety tips above are a good start--and here are literally hundreds of additional tricks workers can use to stay safe. I have compiled them into a zine made by and for sex workers.
