The government of China's crackdown on corruption has ensnared the mother of a Vancouver-based pop star.

Qu Zhang Mingjie, the mom of Wanting Qu, has been arrested, according to China Daily.

An article in the South China Morning Post states that Qu is being detained in Gu township. She's reportedly an official with the city of Harbin, which is where the pop singer is from.

Chinese president Xi Jinping has launched a far-reaching attack on corruption since taking office two years ago.

Wanting Qu is in a relationship with Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson.

On her Facebook page, she posted a photo of her mother after news broke of the arrest.

She also posted a video of her song "Life Is a Struggle", as if to signify the pain that she's feeling this afternoon.
