The annual May Day march in Vancouver brought about 5,000 people onto Commercial Drive.

According to News 1130, one person was stabbed but the injury was not described as serious.

      There were also three arrests.

At one point, the Green candidate for Vancouver East, Wes Regan, tweeted "#MayDayVancouver, the mood has gotten a little more tense to say the least. This is a party, but it's also a protest."

Many were chanting "the people united will never be defeated", according to a tweet from B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union treasurer Paul Finch.

Some held a banner with a sign saying: "Solidarity with Baltimore".

May Day is celebrated as International Workers' Day and in recent years it has been marked by calls for more liberal immigration laws.

In Seattle, there were 16 arrests and three police officers injured in that city's May Day protest.

At last year's May Day in Vancouver, police came under criticism for kneeing a teenager in the back twice before hauling him away. You can see the video below.

@NB racist out of the streets and into the fire.

Let us not forget the role of the police in this society. Capitalist, socialist, communist it don't matter who is carrying the badge and a gun. It was pretty sweet watching the cop line fall in fright. First time seeing a cop line get kettled and sneak away in fright. Hopefully it won't be the last. Happy mayday to all the workers in the world.

      Huh?

@peatr, Those cops are the people who keep you safe at night. And not wanting more immigration doesn't mean you are a racist. You presume a lot of stupidity in your remarks. Try to be grateful. Yeah, I know it's hard, but try.

      Does it matter

Typical police bullshit. The "Justice" Institute trains the police to lie, seen it myself, ends justify the means, except they do so to save their own asses when they pull this kind of bullshit.
I saw a goon squad almost put a teenage Latina girl through a plate glass window a few years back, she did NOTHING to warrant it. I wish I had the balls to say something, to be honest I was scared they would do the same if I went up and called them on it.
I'm not trying to say they are all the same, I've met some outstanding officers, but they can be victimized if they speak out, so I can't blame them.
I've told my kids not to call them unless they are desperate, they are not your friends.
