The killing of a beloved Surrey hockey mom shocked the country at the end of 2013.

This morning, Yosef Jomo Gopaul is expected to plead guilty to manslaughter and robbery in the death of Julie Paskall.

She was killed outside the Newton Arena on December 29, 2013, when she went to pick up her teenage son, who was refereeing a game.

Gopaul was charged with second-degree murder in May 2014.

He's expected to appear in Provincial Court in Surrey at 9:30 a.m.

Anyone who commits manslaughter is liable to a sentence of up to life imprisonment, though sentences can vary, depending on the circumstances.

Gopaul had only been in B.C. for eight weeks before Paskall was killed.

He was previously convicted of aggravated sexual assault in Ontario and was sentenced to 31 months in prison for that crime.
