A little rain didn't stop some of the world's best pool skaters from taking part in the Van Doren Invitational skateboarding competition today at Hastings Skatepark.

Vancouverite Adam Hopkins drew a large crowd of fans but placed fifth in the competition, while Alex Sorgente, Cory Juneau, Brad McClain, and Nolan Munroe placed first, second, third, and fourth, with Tristan Rennie rounding out the top six at the finals on Saturday afternoon (July 11).

The winner takes home a top prize of $15,000. This is the second year the competition has been brought back to Vancouver, and according to Vancouverite and long-time boarder Rob 'Sluggo' Boyce, it shouldn't be the last.

"Vancouver as a whole is a strong-bed of skateboarding. We are the California of Canada... Our skate community is strong, and I predict that we'll continue to have this contest for many years to come," said Boyce.
