Kanman Wong vs. Blair Lockhart for Conservative nomination in Vancouver Quadra

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Conservatives in Vancouver Quadra are deciding on August 6 who will represent them in the fall election.

According to UBC bookstore sales associate Kanman Wong, it will be a choice between him and Blair Lockhart, a lawyer with the B.C. Securities Commission.

Dunbar Theatre owner Ken Charko, who had mused about seeking the party’s nomination, is not in the race.

Vancouver Quadra has been a Liberal playground since 1984, after they wrested it from the Conservatives.

Current Liberal MP Joyce Murray first took the riding in a by-election in 2008.

The NDP has Scott Andrews as its candidate. The Greens haven’t named theirs.

The Conservatives’ Wong told the Straight by phone that the economy and national security will be the two main issues at both the riding and national levels when the campaign begins.

I guess Ken Charko has seen this movie before and doesn't like how it ends.

A choice between a lawyer and a salesman? I am starting to agree with Martin Heidegger, only a god can save us now.

The budget will NOT balance itself. It takes government commitment and experts' careful calculation and planning. Keep on borrowing and raising taxes are not wise long term solutions to any country. Greek government-debt crisis is a live example of poor government financial management. In a democratic country, citizens should have a choice to choose a government that has a proven record of keeping our country's economy afloat while there are many countries in the world are struggling with economic crisis. A wrong turn in government may result in a wrong turn in our country's economy.

Mr Wong, thank you for your Conservative talking points on the economy. On your second election plank, perhaps you please offer an explanation why the civil service was directed by the minister to compile and draft three terrorism related stories per week? BTW - I'm a bit worried my neighbour may be with ISIL. He drives a black car.

      @ Kanman Wong.
It sounds like you will be voting Liberal.
Harper has taken the Cons' borrow-and-spend policy to new extremes. He has never balanced a budget, driven us into 2 recessions and doubled Canada's debt. Even the BoC called Canada's economy atrocious.
