Jennifer Beals declares that she didn't place her dog in jeopardy when she left him in a Ford Escape

The star of Flashdance and The L Word has issued a fiery response to Global B.C. in the wake of a news report about her dog.

Jennifer Beals said that she left her large dog in her Ford Escape for about five minutes on what she claimed was a cool Wednesday morning.

"I, and others, were wearing jackets," the actor stated. "I rolled all four windows down and left the car for five minutes to pick up laundry. My car was visible to me the entire time."

She also stated that she has loved dogs her whole life.

Global B.C. ran a story on Wednesday night showing video of Beals being questioned by a man on Marine Drive about her pooch being left in the vehicle.

"I wondered why two people were congregated by my car taking pictures of my girl," Beals told the TV news station. "Proud mama thought it was because she’s so gorgeous. While I appreciate their vigilance and what must have felt like courage on their part, they were barking up the wrong tree.”

Just another spokesperson for the 'pet' industry...
You know, because you 'own' it and all that.

This spring in Toronto, during a warm April day (14c) as I finished a 5 minute shop, a PA announcement by customer service, initiated by a passer by, advised me that police had been summoned to investigate why my dog was left all alone in my open windowed SUV. Yes, for the entire 5 minutes. Hysterical parking lot heroes do a great disservice to those folks that have a genuine concern about a dog in distress, and concerned citizens in general.

I was about to rail on her when I read the title, but if what she is saying is true in that the windows were down and it wasnt hot out then there is nothing wrong with what she did.

      Yes!

I'm glad she had the courage to face down this ridiculous YouTube vigilantism. The use of 'shaming' has become a powerful weapon and just goes to show how vindictive humans can be. I agree that some people don't have enough sense about leaving their pets in cars but I can't believe that the numbers are very high and certainly not enough to garner this hysteria. I'm glad targets are fighting back.

It wouldn't surprise me if within a couple of years, internet shamers will become social media pariahs. Someone will come out of a 7-11 with a coffee to find some nosy shrew filming her and whining that her purse is made of real leather... and she'll go home and hang herself. Then people will start to wonder just who the fucking villain is.

      Jennifer Beals....

...was excellent in Devil In A Blue Dress. She should have been nominated for an Oscar!
