Uber will bring puppy playdates to downtown core offices at the touch of a button

What better way to brighten your dull day at the office than with a group of puppies? While Vancouverites might not be able to utilize the ridesharing services of Uber just yet, for one day, the company will be delivering puppies to workspaces in the downtown core to support local shelters.

The company has paired up with Companion Animal Advocacy and Rescue Effort (CAARE) to transport a group of eight puppies from office to office during the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday (August 6). All it takes is a the push of the 'PUPPIES' button on your Uber app during that period, and a request will be sent to the Uber team.

Each playdate will last 15 minutes and cost $30. Uber simply asks that each location has an enclosed space available for 'puppy playtime'. Demand is expected to be high, so be sure to open your app early in the day to ensure your playdate.

The eight puppies are all available for adoption, and CAARE staff will be on hand to answer any questions.

"We enter into partnerships with associations like CAARE to help raise awareness for local issues in communities across Canada," said Uber spokesperson Susie Heath.

"Whether it's helping find a new home for an animal up for adoption, providing support to a community in the wake of a disaster or helping people donate their used clothing to those who need it most, Uber is strong in our commitment to serve cities."

Heath added that collaborating with associations like CAARE will "lead to the best results for riders and drivers in the Canadian cities where we operate."

Uber operated in Vancouver for a short period of time in 2012 but was pushed out after a provincially imposed hike in the minimum fare. The company has acquired 37,000 petition signatures from supporters who would like to see the rideshare service return.

These eight furballs will be part of tomorrow's UberPUPPIES event.

Uber held UberPUPPIES events in Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa earlier this year. Student groups at universities and colleges across Canada have also hosted similar 'puppy room' events as a way to help reduce stress on campus.

Ooh I am so glad that UBER is doing this out of the goodness of their #startup hearts and not because they want to somehow promote their non-existent human/car matchmaking service.

      Manipulative.
They just want to put all the taxi companies out of business and then hire the new immigrants to come work for them for little pay.
One more mega corporation leaving no alternatives.

When are the fascists in victoria and city hall going to let people have choice and use uber for transportation? With their complete failure to run translink the people need and deserve to have uber in Vancouver.
