There's no shortage of charitable runs to aid health organizations.

But later this month, you'll get a chance to don sneakers to help the environment.

The third annual MEC Big Wild Challenge trail run and walk takes place in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park on September 19.

Proceeds from the five-kilometre or 10-kilometre routes will go to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.

The organization has been campaigning for a national park in the South Okanagan to offer greater protection species that must move north to escape the impact of climate change.

The entry fee is $20 if you register in advance at www.bigwildchallenge.org. That covers individuals, families, or teams.

On race day, the admission fee rises to $40 with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The trek through Lynn Valley will begin near the footbridge by B.C. Mills House.

MEC, like other members of 1% for the Planet, donates one percent of its revenues to support environmental causes.
