B.C.'s biggest city appears to be experiencing a spike in murders.

Today, the Vancouver Police Department identified a 30-year-old Ontario man, Duy Ly Nguyen, as the 13th homicide victim of the year.

In 2013, there were only six murders in Vancouver. The previous year, there were eight, and in 2014 there were nine culpable homicides.

Around 2 p.m. on Sunday (September 27), Nguyen was shot dead in the passenger seat of a white Toyota Camry in one of Vancouver's wealthiest neighbourhoods.

It occurred in the mall parking lot on King Edward Avenue near the corner of Oak Street—just west of Shaughnessy.

Police say they believe the shooting was targeted and is related to a conflict between gangs.
