Last night, one of the Canucks' divisional rivals got even at Rogers Arena.

After Vancouver won the season opener in Calgary's Scotiabank Saddledome, the Flames settled the score by defeating the Canucks in overtime in the first match of the season at Rogers Arena.

Johnny Goudreau's first goal of the season came at 3:03 in the fourth frame under the new NHL format, which puts three skaters against three.

It marked yet another come-from-behind victory for the Flames, who've demonstrated a knack for winning even after being behind following two periods of play.

The teams entered extra time tied 2-2 on Canucks' goals by Bo Horvat and Jared McCann and Flames' markers by Dougie Hamilton and Sean Monahan.

Vancouver had a chance to put the game away late in the third period when Michael Frolik received a tripping minor at 13:52. But the home team couldn't convert on the power play.

Canucks goalie Ryan Miller turned aside 35 shots. Jonas Hiller had an easier time in the Calgary net, stopping 28 of the 30 pucks fired at him.

Vancouver's next game is in Anaheim on Monday (October 12).
