A police officer who is facing child pornography charges is no longer with a Vancouver Island RCMP detachment.

The Sidney RCMP officer, who wasn't named in an RCMP news release on Monday (January 13), was arrested in late December and released on strict conditions.

"This alleged behaviour is deplorable," Chief Superintendent Ray Bernoties, district commander for the RCMP's Island District, said in the release. "The officer was immediately suspended and a Code of Conduct investigation was initiated. Within 24 hours of his arrest we accepted his discharge documents."

Westshore RCMP is heading the investigation, and has recommended charges of possession of child pornography and production of child pornography. Crown counsel has yet to review the proposed charges.

The officer is slated to appear in Western Communities Provincial Court on February 20.

Good riddance! RcMP has too many cases like this considering the background checks they do on applicants. Canada needs a new national police force..NOW!
