Backup goalie Eddie Lack turned aside 20 shots, helping the Canucks to a 1-0 victory over the Blues at Rogers Arena.

It was Lack's third victory of the season against St. Louis, which is in second place in the Western Conference.

It was also Lack's third shutout, bringing his goals-against average to 2.11.

After two scoreless periods, Jannik Hansen scored the only goal, breaking through the defence after receiving a pass from Tom Sestito.

The Canucks fired 35 shots on Jaroslav Halak and were the better team.

The penalty killing was exceptional, shutting down the Blues when they had the man advantage on three occasions.

But Vancouver's power play was quite weak, not scoring in four chances.

The win moves the Canucks into eighth place in the Western Conference, but the Dallas Stars and Phoenix Coyotes are just one point behind with three games in hand.
