The provincial government has reported that all is well after a 4.3 magnitude earthquake gave people a bit of shock when it struck at 11:39 p.m. on December 29.

“There are currently no reports of damage and none are expected,” reads a media release issued shortly after the tremor. “There is no tsunami threat.”

The quake’s epicentre was located approximately eight kilometres north of Sidney Island or roughly 19 kilometres northeast of Victoria. It was felt throughout the Metro Vancouver region and beyond.

According to a Natural Resources Canada (NRC) report on the earthquake, there would not be any damage expected from a 4.3 magnitude event.

The U.S. Geological Survey has produced a map that illustrates where the earthquake occurred and where people felt it.
