Juan de Fuca MLA John Horgan is widely expected to announce today (March 17) his candicacy for the B.C. NDP leadership.

Horgan, the party's house leader and energy critic, has scheduled a news conference for 7 p.m. at Spencer Middle School in Langford.

On Facebook this morning, Horgan posted: "May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warmly upon your face and the rain fall soft upon your fields. A very happy St Paddy's Day to you and yours. I always feel hopeful and optimistic on the 17th of March!"

Horgan placed third in the 2011 leadership contest, after current leader Adrian Dix and runner-up Mike Farnworth.

Farnworth, the MLA for Port Coquitlam and a former cabinet minister, announced on March 2 that he's in the leadership race.

Vancouver-Point Grey MLA David Eby announced in February that he is not entering the contest due to the impending birth of his first child.

Dana Larsen was the only interesting one in that 2011 snooze-pack of candidates.
