The popular Christmas train show in Stanley Park is the latest charity to be targeted by thieves.

Bright Nights ran from November 26, 2015, to January 2 as a fundraiser for the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund.

Approximately $5,000 worth of lights were stolen. The loss was detected when the display was being taken down.

This year, there were more than three million lights put up by more than 800 firefighters. They donated their time so that thousands of families could enjoy the sound of the conductor's "All aboard", signalling the start of a magical journey on a miniature train through the Stanley Park forest.

This isn't the first theft. In November, someone took about $7,000 worth of electrical equipment. Fortunately, Valor Fireplaces provided a donation to ensure that the show went on.

Other charities that have suffered recent thefts include the B.C. Cancer Foundation, Burnaby Neighbourhood House, and the Salvation Army.
