A major renovation of Metrotown Station could lead to longer travel times for SkyTrain riders between Sunday (January 17) and January 28.

According to TransLink's website, trains will operate on a single track at Metrotown and Patterson stations from 9 p.m. until the end of service.

Transit users are being encouraged to allow for an extra 12 to 15 minutes on the system on those nights.

"During these times, the Millennium Line will operate from VCC-Clark to Columbia only," TransLink notes.

The Metrotown Station upgrades will include the addition of new escalators, stairs, and elevators. Transit users will eventually see updated design features and more space on the platforms. The plans also call for a new secure bike-parking facility like the one that's at Main Street–Science World Station.

This is TransLink's summary of bus upgrades at Metrotown Station.
      The Buzzer

As part of the Centre Stationhouse construction, the elevator at Metrotown Station has been out of service since February 26.

"Noise associated with large construction projects, including nighttime work with varying levels of noise while trains are not operating, is expected to begin in several weeks," TransLink's Buzzer reported. "Notifications will be sent in advance of particularly noisy work."

The East Stationhouse construction project, which begins this spring, is also expected to generate noise.

According to the Buzzer, at that time the "passerelle to Metropolis at Metrotown will not be functional; passengers travelling to or from the mall and existing bus exchange will cross Central Boulevard at ground level."
