The public boating facilities at Vanier Park are on the verge of getting another facelift.

On Monday (February 1), Vancouver park board commissioners will vote on a staff recommendation to enter into a $698,500 contract with JJM Construction Limited.

This phase involves installing a west float, which will replace the asphalt boat ramp with a concrete version. If the contract is approved, there will be additional foreshore protection installed.

Last year, the board replaced the east boat float with a concrete structure ideal for launching kayaks and canoes.

A short-term west float was created in 2014 to meet short-term needs and to provide a safe place for motorized boats and emergency responders to land during fireworks events.

"With the successful design and completion of the east float, it was determined that the west float should be replaced with a new and similarly designed float that can better withstand the storm and tidal water conditions and heavy usage as opposed to modifying the existing float," a report to the board states. "The west float is also designated for use by motorized vessels."
