Brent Granby seeks Vision Vancouver nomination for park board

In December, Vancouver activist Brent Granby told the Straight that he was leaving the Coalition of Progressive Electors.

“I want to support a party that’s working on progressive change that I want to participate in,” Granby said at that time about why he switched over to the ruling civic party, Vision Vancouver.

Today (April 22), the prominent West End resident announced that he’s seeking a Vision nomination to run as a park board candidate in the fall municipal election.

Here’s what Granby said in a statement:

“The Park Board oversees critical elements from its community centre, parks and green spaces, which are central to developing a happier and healthier city. My experiences as volunteer activist have provided multiple opportunities to participate in the construction of community gardens, community art projects, community-based celebrations and advocating for active transportation infrastructure.

“I am passionate about civic engagement and public discourse. I enjoy the process of envisioning new public space. I know from personal experience with raising my children the importance of community centres and the services that they offer. As a past Director of a community centre I appreciate the importance of shared responsibility and respect between the Park Board and Community Centre Associations.

“I want to be an elected Vancouver Park Board Commissioner to ensure that the priorities of local government are addressing the crucial issues of sustainability, and liveability for residents and business in order to make our city better for everyone.”

Why didn't he run for Vision Vancouver last time?

Poor Brent! He wants to be a somebody but always ends up looking like a deer in the headlights.Four of the five current Vision members of the park board have realized that they are not going to get re-elected, so they have had various excuses as to why they are not running again. One is even trying to prove for once and for all, that she is the Peter principle personified.
I doubt that any Vision candidate will be elected to the park board as they have proven that they hold the public in such contempt.

      He deserves it.

He has toed the Vision party line with great vigour. He will do anything Vision wants. He has done suitable penance for his time with COPE. He deserves it, the poor man.

Granby is the worst possible choice... he's just a follower who seeks the limelight...
