Burnaby cyclist shot near Spences Bridge

      The Lytton RCMP have said that a 59-year-old Burnaby man was seriously wounded by a gunman during a cycling event.

      The man, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to hospital after being shot on Highway 1 near Spences Bridge.

      He was participating in the Cache Creek 600, a two-day cycling marathon from Pitt Meadows to Cache Creek and back.

      The assailant is suspected to have escaped the area in a pickup truck.
