Eight workers to be fired after Mercy for Animals Canada releases video of abuse of cattle in Chilliwack

(Editor's note: Warning—the video below is extremely disturbing.)

Canada's largest dairy operator says it will take action after undercover video revealed workers kicking, whipping, and punching animals at its factory farm in Chilliwack.

Mercy for Animals Canada released the video, which was taken by a former employee.

Chilliwack Cattle Sales says it will fire eight workers who are seen mistreating the animals.

The opening scene shows a cow being pulled up by its neck by a front-end loader as an employee hoots with joy.

On its website, Mercy for Animals Canada has a message to Saputo, which buys from Chilliwack Cattle Sales, calling on the company to "adopt meaningful animal welfare policies for its dairy suppliers".

That includes "zero tolerance for animal abuse", "proper care and treatment of sick and downed animals", and "video monitoring systems streamed live on the Internet to prevent abuse".

Absolutely horrified about the cruelty to these cows on this farm in Chilliwack, there is no excuse for this kind of treatment of these gentle creatures. I hope charges are laid against these so called human beings. They need to be held accountable. Thanks to Mercy for Animals and the SPCA for bringing this to the light of day.

i knew this guy back in the day who used to work with chickens, either on a farm or processing them.
he would brag that he and a few co-workers used to throw the chickens into an exhaust fan for fun!
he loved being that guy from surrey, he relished it.
he got hit by a kharma...real hard!

People who do this to animals don't treat people any better. These individuals may have been fired but they'll continue to behave this way to any living thing, human or otherwise. My other concern is with the corporate culture at this company. Perhaps management doesn't treat their employees very well or pay them enough and this kind of behaviour can also stem from that. Frustration with their work can be taken out on the animals and if the corporate culture doesn't change, this behaviour will be seen again at this company.

Can anyone tell me who buys this milk so we can put financial pressure on this producer? I refuse to believe owners don't know what's going on with the injuries shown and if they don't they are negligent in their jobs as owners.

If anyone can share who buys this milk for resale it's important to pass along so we can boycott now and forever.

This is very disturbing footage, however I don't like the end phrase of "ditch dairy". Most dairy farmers are kind to their animals. There is no benefit to them being cruel and they know that. DON'T MAKE IT LOOK LIKE ALL FARMERS DO THIS BECAUSE THEY DON'T!!!!!!!
