Charges have been laid in connection to a shooting in Yaletown that led to the suspect cycling away on the seawall and exchanging gunfire with police near Science World.

Gerald Mark Battersby, 61, has been charged with six counts of attempted murder and four firearms offences.

"Those charges are related to the shooting victim on Davie Street and five police officers," reads a statement from Vancouver police.

On Tuesday, bike shop owner Paul Dragan was shot in front of a Starbucks on Davie Street.

"Police officers happened to be nearby, challenged the alleged shooter and exchanged several shots," the VPD statement says.

"The man fled on a bike along the seawall, pursued by police. Dozens of officers flooded the area and found the suspect on the sea wall at Science World. A second exchange of gun fire occurred. The suspect was shot and one police officer received minor injuries from flying glass when the window of her police car was shot out."

According to police, Battersby is a former employee of the victim. Both remain in hospital, with Dragan in "stable but critical condition".

Police have been "unable to confirm where Gerald Battersby was living" even though officers have talked to 100 witnesses.
