A 23-year-old Coquitlam man has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with a widely reported attack last year.

Vancouver police won't release the accused man's name because of a publication ban.

In November, VPD spokesperson Const. Brian Montague talked to the media about a spate of sucker punches across Vancouver over the previous 10 months.

At that time, media outlets were supplied with a photo of the victim in the early-morning October 25 incident outside the Roundhouse Bar at 670 Smithe Street.

The man was walking home with his wife when he found himself in the midst of a battle between two groups over a limousine.

After he was punched, he collapsed and his head struck concrete. He ended up suffering brain damage and spent a month in hospital.

The victim's name has not been released.
