Last night, the Vancouver Canucks managed to score two first-period goals in Nashville.

The good news for their fans is that the markers by Bo Horvat and Daniel Sedin broke the team's 11-period scoring drought.

However, it wasn't enough to end a winless streak that now stands at six games.

The Predators tied the game on third-period goals by James Neal and Filip Forsberg and then took home two points in the shootout on goal by Craig Smith in the fourth round.

Canucks goalie Ryan Miller blocked 30 shots whereas in the Predators net, Pekka Rinne turned aside 23 shots.

Tonight, the Canucks hope to end the slump in St. Louis. In their last meeting at Rogers Arena on March 19, the Blues won 3-0, outshooting Vancouver 50-19.

That performance led star Canucks forward Daniel Sedin to blast unnamed teammates for not trying hard enough.

The only thing that kept the Canucks in that game was the performance of goalie Jacob Markstrom, who's expected to get the start today.

This season, the Blues have 43-22-9 record. The Canucks are at 27-33-13, which is the team's worst performance since the 1998-99 season when they only posted 58 points.

That 1998-99 season is memorable for the firing of head coach and general manager Mike Keenan and the trade of Pavel Bure to the Florida Panthers, which brought star defenceman Ed Jovanovski to Vancouver.

The dismal 1998-99 finish also gave new Canucks general manager Brian Burke an opportunity to engineer some deals so he could draft Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
