One of the Lower Mainland's more popular bloggers had her website and Twitter account hacked.

Laila Yuile, a fiery progressive based in Surrey, has tweeted that her site has been deleted, but she will be uploading back-ups of her articles.

She has also created a new Twitter account, @RealLailaYuile.

Yuile has been a frequent critic of the B.C. Liberal government, most recently for its support of the Site C hydroelectric project but also over other issues, including poverty and corruption.

One of her supporters, blogger Norm Farrell, wrote that the hacking incident suggests that "persons outside the province were hired to threaten and attack a Canadian citizen with an admirable track record of holding to account powerful people within our community".

In an interview with CKNW Radio, Yuile said that she felt that the hacking was "a violation of my personal space".

"It feels like I'm being threatened, to be silenced," she added.

She also said the hacker used "rude and crude language".

(Editor's note: After this article was posted, Yuile created a new blog.)
