A North Vancouver rescue effort has turned into a recovery attempt to locate the body of a teenage male who presumably drowned in Lynn Creek yesterday.

North Vancouver RCMP respondedto a call on March 28 at 4:30 p.m. that a teenager had jumped off a cliff near Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge and plunged about 50 metres into Lynn Creek.

According to the CBC, he was last seen clinging to a rock for about half an hour while rescuers attempted to get to him.

Today (March 29), attempts by the North Vancouver RCMP, with the E Division Underwater Recovery Team and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team, to recover his body were called off due to dangerous water levels. Efforts will resume once water levels become safe.

However, the Lower Mainland District Urban Patrol helicopter (Air 1) and the North Vancouver Police boat continued to monitor the creek beds and Burrard Inlet in an effort to locate him.

The teenager has been identified but police are waiting to contact his family before releasing his name.
