Vision Vancouver had a heavy turnout in today's advance voting for nominations for park board and the board of education.

Vision executive director Stepan Vdovine told the Straight by phone that 810 party members cast ballots.

Voting resumes on Sunday (June 22) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Vision's new campaign office at 326 West 5th Avenue.

According to Vdovine, the results will be announced after 8 p.m. on June 22 at the Waterfall Building (1540 West 2nd Avenue) near the entrance to Granville Island.

Vdovine also emphasized that the ballot boxes from today's voting have been sealed and won't be counted until after voting takes place on Sunday.

Nine candidates are vying for four park-board nominations. They are Graham Anderson, Katherine Day, Catherine Evans, Naveen Girn, Brent Granby, Trish Kelly, Mark Mitchell, Sammie Jo Rumbaua, and Coree Tull. (To learn about their positions on keeping cetaceans in captivity in Stanley Park, go here.)

A fifth spot has been saved for Trevor Loke, the only Vision incumbent commissioner seeking relection.

Two candidates, Joy Alexander and Ian Ross McDonald, are running for one remaining position on the Vision board of education slate.

      COPE (Could Offer Proper Election)

As if the fix isn't in for Naveen, Trish, Coree and Sammie Jo for Park Board. Ain't no democracy for Vancouver's governing political party, our city's self-styled "dictatorship of the proletariat". Puh-leeze.

A political party lettings its member choose the candidates? How shockingly refreshing.

      COPE (Crazy Offensive Party Emptied)

Tim Louis' idea of an election is him deciding which of the three people left in COPE should run. Why is Tim too scared to run for Mayor? Is he too busy living in his million dollar west-side home?

Don't know whether to laugh or to despair at the above comment from user "COPE" bemoaning a fix. I guess for these pathetic wash-ups, ignorance truly is strength.

Crying on the internet about being unable to attract candidates may be an all time low now, but things will get so much worse before november no doubt, as more rats flee the sinking ship.

If COPE hadn't s#!t the bed so hard and so consistently for the last two years, maybe they'd still have some competent organizers left in their midst who could... **GASP** attract talent that is capable of running a polished campaign.

Naaaaw thats crazy, the "fix" is in- help help I'm being oppressed!

      can't deal with vision

There is an AGM on the 6th. Be nice if some people showed up to put some energy into defeating Vision, beside the usual 300, that is.
