More gunfire occurred in Surrey over the weekend after the Mounties announced a large drug bust last week.

One man was taken to hospital after what Surrey RCMP calls a "targeted shooting". The man's injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

It occurred on 92 Avenue on Saturday (April 2) not far from Kirkbride elementary.

The second shooting incident took place near 88 Avenue near 132 Street early Sunday (April 3) evening.

These were the 29th and 30th shootings of the year in Surrey.

On Friday (April 1), the RCMP held a news conference to announce that police have seized a "substantial quantity of illicit drugs including heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and fake Oxycontin" worth more than $4.5 million.

The drug bust occurred on March 16 in the Newton area of Surrey. Pardip Hayer, a 30-year-old Abbotsford resident, faces four drug-trafficking charges.

There's no indication that the recent shootings are linked to the police enforcement action.
