Small earthquake felt after striking west of Squamish

      A small earthquake was “lightly felt” in Squamish and Sechelt this morning (April 4).

      According to Natural Resources Canada, a 3.1 magnitude seismic event struck at a depth of five kilometers. It occurred at 11:36 a.m.

      The earthquake’s epicentre was located 32 kilometres west oF Squamish and 28 kilometres northeast of Sechelt.

      “There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” reads a Natural Resources Canada bulletin about the event.

      On March 18, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake was detected off the west coast of Vancouver Island. On December 29, 2015, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake was felt across the City of Vancouver just when it struck before midnight.
