Vancouver's Vasek Pospisil and American Jack Sock win Wimbledon doubles title

Montreal's Eugenie Bouchard didn't make it all the way at Wimbledon, losing her final match at centre court against Petra Kvitova.

But Canada took home one major trophy when Vancouver's Vasek Pospisil and American Jack Sock shocked tennis fans by winning the men's doubles competition against favourites Mike and Bob Ryan of the United States.

After winning, the 24-year-old Pospisil tweeted: ".@Wimbledon cmaps with @JackSock!!! Words can't describe..."

Pospisil, who's now ranked 33 in the world, and Sock won a grueling three-hour marathon over the defending Wimbledon champions 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 3-6, and 7-5.

Pospisil was born in Vernon and grew up in Vancouver. He speaks English, Czech, and French, and he trained in the Czech Republic in his late teens.

He idolized Roger Federer, who made it to the Wimbledon singles final after defeating Canadian Milos Raonic.

Another Canadian, Toronto's Daniel Nestor, made it to the mixed doubles semifinal with parner Kristina Mladenovic of France. They lost to Belarus's Max Mirnyi and Taiwan's Chan Hao-Ching.

Pospisil and Nestor played together in the Davis Cup competition at UBC's Thunderbird Sports Centre last year.

Beautiful! Well done Vasek. Davis Cup competition can't come around again soon enough for my liking.

Way to go Vasek! A threat in singles and doubles... more greatness to come no doubt.

A couple of corrections for the article (since it's showing up as the main article on this subject on my google news feed): 1. Max Mirnyi is from Belarus, not Taiwan. 2. Vasek's doubles partner's last name is "Sock", not "Stock"...

Thanks, wacb, fixed (but the headline was correct at least!).
