Early this month, the two grizzly bears on Grouse Mountain awoke from hibernation, which was a sure sign of spring.

And this weekend, there's another indication that winter is behind us.

The 2.9-kilometre Grouse Grind officially opens on Saturday (April 30) at 6:15 a.m. The gate will close at 7 p.m.

Anyone who makes it up the 853-metre-tall incline will be treated to a spectacular view of Burrard Inlet and Vancouver's downtown peninsula.

But don't be surprised if it comes accompanied with plenty of sweat.

Rookies take note: bring a bottle of Gatorade or some other drink that replaces lost salts and sugars, and be sure to go to the washroom before beginning up the path.
