Former park board chair Ian Robertson has announced that he will run for city council with the Non-Partisan Association this November.

Robertson was on the Vancouver park board from 2005 to 2011 and acted as chair during the Stanley Park windstorm restoration efforts, the NPA noted in a news release.

“When I left politics three years ago, I never ruled out a return, because I have been most fulfilled in my career providing public service,” Robertson said in the release.

The council candidate is currently the executive director of the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia. He is also on the board of directors of the VanDusen Botanical Garden.

So far, the other confirmed NPA candidates for city council are incumbents George Affleck and Elizabeth Ball, in addition to Melissa De Genova, who is currently on the park board.

John Coupar has announced he plans to seek reelection as a park board commissioner, and Fraser Ballantyne will run again as a school trustee.

Former journalist Kirk LaPointe confirmed his mayoral candidacy last week. The NPA is expected to announce more candidates in the coming days.

The municipal election takes place November 15.

Why do most NPA types look like they've been to the Mike Duffy School of Pork & Perks? Do they all park their ample backsides in a men's club hooked up to scotch or bourbon IVs while they plot ways to "take the city back".

Yeah..they'll take it back all right. Back to the days when human rights only existed if you were a rich white male.

I'll get right on it, VW. Right after the NPA changes their name to something with a tad more integrity.
How about 'Harper Farm Team-Vancouver Division'.

Right Duffy, right after Vision gets permission to changes their name to the NDP Farm Team from the New York Trust Fund kiddies. This will end the charade of visionistas trying to pretend that they are centrists.

Great news, finally a Robertson with some substance and accountability. I remember his days leading the park board, and look forward to that style of leadership on council. Di-Vision no more.
