The British Columbia Conversation Officer Service announced today (May 9) that a series of wildfires in the Peace region are suspected to be arson.

The B.C. environment ministry stated that B.C. Wildfire Service investigators and natural-resource officers have found evidence that 10 separate wildfires, in three areas, were deliberately set. The fires are believed to be connected.

Extra conservation officers have been brought in to aid the investigation but the ministry is asking for the public's help.

Any suspicious activity or information related to the fires can be reported to the Report All Poachers and Polluters line at 1-877-952-7277. All tips can remain anonymous.

A fire north of Fort St. John joined with another wildfire on May 5 and crossed over into Alberta, prompting an evacuation order and alert in the area.

Evacuation orders were lifted on May 8 and evacuees were allowed to return home. Evacuation alerts, however, remain in effect in the area.
