End of an era as veteran broadcasters Bill Good, Philip Till, and Gloria Macarenko move on

CBC News has decided to switch its local supper-hour news anchor.

Andrew Chang, who's been based in Montreal, will take over Gloria Macarenko's spot on September 1.

Her final broadcast was last night after 24 years anchoring CBC TV newscasts.

Macarenko will become the new host of CBC Radio One network show The Story From Here, which broadcasts documentaries from across Canada.

Macarenko remains as host of Our Vancouver, which is a current-affairs TV show on CBC.

CKNW Radio is also making changes.

Morning-show host Philip Till and the broadcaster who follows him after the 8:30 news, Bill Good, have both announced their retirements.

They each hosted their final shows this week.

Good anchored the CBC supper-hour news before joining CKNW in 1988.

The shuffles prompted former Global BC weathercaster Wayne Cox to tweet: "As we say goodbye to Bill & Gloria, would the last veteran broadcaster to leave please turn out the lights!"

Phillip Till brought good humour and much knowledge to his show. A great way to start the day. Gloria will be missed but at least she has continuing employment. Good selectively chose which calls he would take, had his favourites and discriminated against others. Then he talked about restaurants no one could afford and his BMW commercials reeked of exclusivity. This listener chose jazz music after Mr. Till--that's a great way to carry on with the day.

Whenever I listen to Bil Good's voice I feel overcome by slumber. I am always amazed how such bland an uninteresting person can so successful in broadcasting. His elitist views remain completely out of touch with reality like some pampered sweet talking pillow.

Sincere congratulations and best wishes on your retirement Mr. Good. It's certainly it's a job well done for the elites of this province and a lesson to me in how propaganda works.

I heard Gloria speaking in Spanish the other day.
Maybe Harper can appoint her as a Senator to court the Hispanic vote.
But first let's check to see if she has a house on Saltspring Island.

I hope, if there ever is an oil spill from tankers moving along our coastline, that Mr. Good, assuming he has waterfront property on the Sunshine Coast, gets a good dose of the bitumen. He deserves it!
At least he is still getting paid for the BMW ads.
