Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. has released data showing that housing starts in B.C.'s urban areas rose ever so slightly in July over June.

CMHC uses a "trend estimate", which is a seasonally adjusted six-month moving average.

In July, the trending figure reached 25,515 units in urban areas, up from 25,445 in June.

As far as actual housing starts go, there were 10,713 starts in metropolitan Vancouver in July, up from 10,681 in July 2013.

Actual starts were up 45 percent in Kelowna, rising from 453 in July 2013 to 655 in July 2014.

Meanwhile, actual starts declined 29 percent in Abbotsford-Mission in July 2014 from the same month a year ago, dropping from 426 to 303.

In Greater Victoria—the only other B.C. urban centre with a population greater than 100,000—housing starts remained flat in July 2014 compared to the same month in 2013.
