Vancouver police announced today (June 3) that they are on the hunt for a wanted sex offender who is on statutory release and did not return to his Vancouver halfway house.

James Patrick Benson is a two-time federal offender with a history of violent offences, including attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon.

Benson was granted statutory release on June 2 and is serving a longterm supervision order with numerous conditions.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The 36-year-old man is described as white, 5'10" tall, 200 lbs., and has brown hair and brown eyes.

He has several tattoos, including the numbers 011707 on his wrist, the word MORBID on his left forearm, the words LOST SOUL on his chest, and red stars on both shoulders. He has ties to both Vancouver and Calgary.

He was the subject of a previous Vancouver public warning in 2010 when police alerted residents he was residing in the city. He also went missing from another halfway house in 2012, and was located and arrested a week after his disappearance.

Anyone who knows where he is or sees him is asked to call 911 immediately.
