NDP MLA David Eby to host “emergency meeting” on B.C. teachers strike

    1 of 1 2 of 1

B.C. NDP MLA David Eby is hosting a community meeting Wednesday (September 10) intended to give students, parents and teachers a chance to “send a message” to the B.C. government to end the teachers strike and improve classroom conditions.

The “emergency meeting” will also allow parents to share information on low-cost or free child-care options, a news release from Eby's office stated.

Education Minister Peter Fassbender and all Vancouver MLAs have been invited to the meeting, and several school board trustees are expected to attend, according to Eby.

More than 100 people showed up at a similar event the Vancouver-Point Grey MLA hosted at his constituency office in June.

The meeting will take place at the Point Grey Community Church in Collingwood, located at 3512 West 7th Ave, from 6 to 8 p.m.

This is about reinstating decent teaching and learning conditions in the classroom.
Bravo to the teachers! They are standing up to a government that took away the right to negotiate good learning conditions -- and now are ignoring a judgement from the courts that said doing so was illegal.
Thanks to the NDP for doing this - next time I might very well vote for them instead of for the liberals.

Third Georgia Straight article of the day related to the BCTF strike. This one is basically a 'press release', not really an article. All three today are one sided rhetoric; no hint of balanced reporting. Even though this paper is free, I think I'm being shortchanged on value.

      Attention?

Too bad he has no power and it's just another typical look-at-me Eby grandstanding show. Funny that Eby is now the BCTF's point man in the NDP considering it was Dix's push to get Eby a seat that ended up costing the NDP the last election and the BCTF billions.

      Good On David Eby!

Finally, a politician who takes this matter seriously rather than just a personal victory. Christy and Peter are such assholes.

Just watched the local CBC newscast and it's very clear the new anchor, Andrew Chang, is an establishment wanker as he referred to the upcoming BCTF vote as a stunt...twice. Where is the balanced reporting? He's just another rightwing douchebag a la Petro Mansbridge and Wanker Murphy.

I watched him for about three minutes, then had to leave the room when he forced out an "eh." Real Canadian, eh!

Great way to make brownie points for the federal NDP party.

Um "Attention?" Eby beat Christy Clark in her original riding. I don't recall Eby being the reason why the NDP lost. Dix lost because of his refusal to remind everyone of Basi/Virk, the HST, BC Rails, smart meters, hidden taxes by way of user fees and his spur of the moment decision to say no to pipelines. Eby may be grandstanding, but at least his door is open and he is trying to represent his constituency in Victoria and not the other way around.

      Oh thank God!

David Eby is weighing in! Now we are all saved!

Davey? Sit down and let the grown ups hash this one out. Sheeeesh! What a prima donna!

Way to go David Eby. The provincial government is obviously too chicken to hold any face to face discussions regarding public education. Also, thanks David for defeating the colossal ego of Christy Clark in the Point Grey riding back in May 2013.
