Vancouver International Airport has landed at the top of a list of best North American airports once again—for the seventh year in a row.

According to Business Insider magazine online, YVR, with 19.5 million passengers (latest figures available), has "good reason" to have been selected tops in North America once more:

"Vancouver tops this list for the seventh year in a row, and for good reason. Customer reviewers on Skytrax cited YVR's friendly staff, high level of organization, and easy access to downtown Vancouver as some of the best things about the airport.

Vancouver International also boasts a floatplane terminal, as well as a sizable collection of art from the Pacific Northwest."

The annual North America list compiled by international air-transport research company Skytrax is contained in its comprehensive World Airport Awards, sometimes referred to as the Passenger's Choice Awards.

These awards showcase results gleaned from Skytrax's yearly World Airline Survey and World Airport Survey, which for 2016 covered 550 airports worldwide and attracted 13.25 million responses from passengers reflecting 106 nationalities, according to the independent London-based company, which says on its website that it allows no sponsorship and charges no fees for its rankings.

The full international awards rankings are contained within about five dozen different categories, comprising regional groupings and taking into consideration such passenger concerns as shopping, cleanliness, hotels, transportation, comfort, washrooms, staff language skills, wait times, immigration queues, and many others.

In terms of top world airports, Vancouver placed a respectable 14th, behind such stalwarts as Singapore's Changi Airport (1), South Korea's Incheon International Airport (2), and Munich Airport (3).

Vancouver finished at number two for the continent's best staff (behind Seattle-Tacoma International Airport), and the Fairmont Vancouver Airport took the number-nine spot worldwide for hotels.

Tokyo's International Haneda Airport, which finished fourth in the world, also took top spot in the cleanest-airport category. Asian airports dominated several world categories, including best dining, cleanliness, staff, and baggage delivery.

Two other Canadian airports made it onto the list for North America's 10 best: Toronto's Pearson International (6) and Halifax's Stanfield International (10).

According to Business Insider, although Stanfield was the smallest airport on the North American list of winners, "it's not without its charms. Customer reviewers raved about the regional cuisine served at the airport, which includes fresh lobster."

BI said of Toronto's ranking: "Pearson Airport has state-of-the art de-icing facilities and revamped check-in areas. Skytrax customers gave the airport high marks for its clear signage and easily navigable layout."

YVR neighbour Sea-Tac settled in at seventh spot, with survey takers citing its baggage handling, cleanliness, and dining options.
