The smell of smoke lingers across the Lower Mainland this morning as a result of a large fire in Burns Bog.

According to the Corporation of Delta's last statement, the fire is between 50 and 70 hectares.

"At this moment, the Burns Bog fire appears to be 10% contained," the municipality stated, "however it does not appear to have grown overnight."

At midnight, River Road opened but Highway 17 stayed closed from Highway 99 to the Nordel Way and Highway 91 connector.

Meanwhile, the evacuation order was scaled back in the Tilbury industrial area, though businesses on Progress Way remain off limits between 76 Street and 80 Street.

The fire broke out on Sunday (July 3) around 11:40 a.m. and crossed Highway 17 later that day.

The Corporation of Delta has asked people to remain away from the area.
